With the theme of ‘Vietnam Arthroplasty and Arthroscopic Surgery: International Integration,’ the three-day conference was conducted by VAAS in conjunction with ASSA, gathering 60 Vietnamese and 50 foreign speakers from Southeast Asia and other areas in the world.

At the event, which focused on many facets of arthroplasty, arthroscopy, and general orthopedic surgery, instructional course lectures, symposia, and case discussions were presented by international experts from the U.S., Australia, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand, and ASSA.

As part of the conference, lasting from Thursday to Saturday, the ASSA annual executive committee meeting was held, focusing on an action plan aimed at promoting professional exchange and support, and accelerating the development of arthroscopy and sports medicine in Southeast Asia to bring them in line with standards in Asia and globally.

At the meeting, Dr. Tang Ha Nam Anh, 50, president of the VAAS and director of the Traumatology and Orthopedics Center of Ho Chi Minh City-based Hoan My Sai Gon Hospital, was elected as the ASSA president.

With over 30 years of experience in orthopedics, Dr. Anh has not only helped thousands of patients regain the opportunity to move comfortably, but also imparted knowledge and motivation to many generations of Vietnamese medical students.

The new ASSA leader will have a specific action program to support the expertise transfer to Laos and Cambodia.

Dr. Anh will also direct academic exchange programs through fellowships and in-person and online training courses for physicians in the region.

In addition, he will promote scientific research cooperation in endoscopy and sports medicine, while enhancing the role of ASSA in the Asia-Pacific region.

At the conference, Vietnamese and foreign experts introduced the latest research and their experience in knee and hip replacement, reconstruction of injured ligaments, and meniscus and articular cartilage preservation.

In particular, this year’s conference had a session for outstanding young speakers from Southeast Asia to present their new research and debate new issues in sports medicine.

Delegates from Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines paid working visits to Military Hospital 175, Thong Nhat Hospital, and Sante Surgical Hospital LLC, all located in Ho Chi Minh City.
