7 Yoga Exercises for Bright and Healthy Eyes

02/01/2025

Did you know that your eyes work tirelessly for 16-18 hours every day, from the moment you wake up until you go to sleep? Exposure to blue light from screens, environmental pollution, and work stress can lead to eye fatigue, dryness, and even more serious issues such as refractive errors, dry eyes, or cataracts.

So how can you relax and rejuvenate your eyes daily? Eye yoga is the perfect solution: with just 3 minutes a day, you can improve eye health, reduce stress, and enhance your vision. Try these 7 simple yoga exercises today!

Exercise 1: Relax your eyes with palms

  • How to do it: Rub your palms together for warmth, close your eyes, and gently place your palms over your eyes (without direct contact). Take deep breaths and relax for 30 seconds.
  • Benefits: Instantly relaxes the eyes in darkness, reducing stress.

Relax your body and eyes with your palms.

Exercise 2: Open and close eyes

  • How to do it: Sit straight, relax your body and face. Open your eyes as wide as possible, hold for a few seconds, then close them. Repeat 15-20 times.
  • Benefits: Relieves eye tension, strengthens eye muscles, and enhances eye brightness.

Exercise 3: Eye movement exercise

  • Movement 1: Sit relaxed, stretch your arms out to the sides parallel to the ground. Make loose fists with your hands and point your thumbs upward. Keep your head still and move your eyes from the right thumb to the left thumb. Repeat 10 times, then close your eyes and relax for 30 seconds.
  • Movement 2: Similar to Movement 1, but instead of side-to-side motion, place your hands in a staggered position, one above and one below. Look at the upper thumb, then the lower thumb. Repeat 10 times and relax for 30 seconds.
  • Benefits: Enhances eye flexibility and improves focus.

Exercise 4: Focus on a point

  • How to do it: Sit comfortably and focus your eyes on the tip of your nose for 20 seconds, then close your eyes to relax for 20 seconds. Repeat 10 times.
  • Benefits: Stimulates coordination between the brain and eyes, improving concentration.

Exercise 5: Move eyes in darkness

  • How to do it: Similar to Exercise 3 but performed with closed eyes. This advanced exercise is especially beneficial after work hours.
  • Benefits: Boosts eye health and reduces strain.

Exercise 6: Shift focus

  • Movement 1: Stretch your arm forward, parallel to the ground, with your thumb pointing upward. Use your arm to draw a large cross or circle, keeping your head still and your eyes following your thumb. Repeat 10 times, then switch arms.
  • Movement 2: Similar to Movement 1, but instead of drawing shapes, move your thumb closer to your face and back to the original position. Repeat 10 times and relax for 30 seconds.
  • Benefits: Improves eye agility and reduces fatigue from prolonged work.

Exercise 7: Trataka (Candle gazing)

  • How to do it: One of the oldest yoga exercises for the eyes, Trataka is best done before bedtime. Light a candle and place it at arm’s length in front of you. Focus on the flame without blinking until your eyes tear up, then close your eyes and relax.
  • Benefits: Cleanses the eyes, enhances vision, and stimulates focus.

Spare just 3 minutes daily for these yoga exercises and experience brighter, healthier, and sharper vision. Share these tips with your friends and family to spread the benefits!
